At American Anodizing, we are dedicated to performing high quality metal finishing with a focus on timely deliveries and customer satisfaction. In the project highlighted here, we were contracted by the military to finish an extension receiver, a component used in a firearm application. The part was composed of 7075 and 6061 aluminum and measured 7” by 1.5”. A hardcoat anodizing was required for this part, ideal due to its imparted strength and aesthetic qualities along with its non-conductive, abrasion resistant, heat and wear resistant aspects. The component was initially prepared for treatment with etching and grit blasting procedures, to ensure a uniform and non-reflective matte finish. The type III sulfuric hardcoat anodizing process was carried out in conformance with MIL-A-8625, and dyed black as requested. A mid temperature nickel acetate seal was applied to close the porous aluminum oxide layer.
In process testing methods were implemented to assure quality and accuracy, utilizing eddy current metering to measure coating thickness. Turnaround time for this anodizing project is 5 to 7 days, and we process 20,000 to 30,000 units per month with shipment to locations on the East Coast.
